Published in the USA as Babe: the Gallant Pig, The Sheep–Pig was the source for the 1995 film Babe. It was the fifth of over 100 children's novels that King–Smith wrote; the others include The Queen's Nose (1983 – adapted as a children's TV series in 1995), Alphabeasts (1990), Dragon Boy (1993) and Aristotle (2003).
Dick King–Smith died in 2011, aged 88.
